Here's a breakdown of some of our key ingredients: 

ACE Vitamin Blend

 

Vitamin A, C, and E are antioxidants that help to deter free radical damage, the most significant cause of skin aging. They offer powerful defense system against the aging effects from free radical damage.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAS)

 

Alpha Hydroxy Acids include glycolic, lactic, citric, tartaric, malic and mandelic acid. These studied acids are found in skin peels and skin care as skin resurfacing agents that promote healthier, younger looking skin. Primarily, they work by removing accumulated corneocytes (dead cells) from the epidermis by dissolving the bonds that hold them together.

Allantoin

 

Allantoin is chiefly derived from roots and leaves from the comfrey plant. It promotes healthy new tissue growth and has skin soothing properties.

Aloe Vera

 

Aloe can penetrate the skin. Rich in amino acids, minerals, EFA’s, Vitamins C and E, and enzymes, it is deeply moisturizing and helps balances the skin’s pH. It contains many naturally occurring phytochemicals including Salicylic Acid.

Anthemis Nobilis Extract (Roman Chamomile)

 

Chamomile flower oil, from the daisy family, contains soothing compounds and up to 50% of azulene, apigenin and bisabolol. The apigenin also contains quercetin and holds anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Benzophenone-3 (sunscreen agent)

 

Benzophenone-3 is found in many sunscreen products. The Health & Consumer Protection European Commission (SCCP/1201/08) is of the opinion that the use of benzophenone-3 as a UV-filter (up to 6% in cosmetic sunscreen products and up to 0.5% in all types of cosmetic products) does not pose a consumer health risk. It absorbs and dissipates UV radiation to help protect the skin.

Borago Officinalis (Borage flowers, seeds & leaf)

 

Borage flowers, seeds and leaves are often used in cosmetics and medicine. Containing the healthy essential fatty acid (EFA) with gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), the seed oil is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and used to treat various skin issues such as seborrheic dermatitis and eczema. Primarily because GLA’s seem to promote the strengthening of the skin by supplying nutrients that support cellular immunity. 

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter - NMF)

 

Resembling natural skin lipids, Shea helps keep skin intact and bacteria out. With anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and regenerating and cellulite refining properties, it also has a role in absorbing UVB sunrays.

Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract (Green Tea Extract)

 

Green Tea leaf extract contains anti-oxidant vitamins C and E, free radical scavenging polyphenols and theanine, a natural amino acid moisturizer found in the skin. Offering anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties, it is found in anti-aging and photo-damage preparations and also used in the treatment of mild to moderate acne vulgaris.

Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil (Hempseed Oil)

 

Hemp Seed oil is enriched with naturally occurring proteins, EFA’s and other nutrients. Cannabis Sativa is a non-narcotic variety with immune enhancing and anti-inflammatory qualities. Offering nourishment to all skin types and holding non-comedogenic and calming attributes, it is used to benefit acne, sensitive skin and rosacea.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Coconut derivative)

 

Derived from coconut oil, caprylic / capric triglyceride is an emollient and thickening agent that is readily absorbed. As part of a formulations cosmetic matrix, it can help to reduce dryness while enhancing the delivery of other product ingredients.

C. Alcohols (Palm Oil / Cocoa Butter)

 

Cetearyl, Ceteareth and Cetyl alcohols are skin softening fatty alcohol emulsifying agents derived from derived palm oil and cocoa butter. They add viscosity, keeps oil and water from separating for even spread. They are commonly referred to as surfactants.

Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract (Chamomile)

 

Chamomile is beneficial as an anti-inflammatory that can be used for all skin products to reduce redness and soothe the skin. It has a long history of use in products for skin inflammations, sunburn and softening the skin.

Citric acid (also see AHA & Vitamin C)

 

Topical citric acid produces similar results to glycolic acid, ammonium lactate, and retinoic acid for increasing epidermal and dermal glycosaminoglycans and viable epidermal thickness. Removing dead cells, it also enhances tissue epithelisation, a part of wound healing. In skincare, it is often used as a skin smoothing, brightening and firming agent. It has one of the largest molecular structures in the alpha hydroxy family. In comparison, Glycolic acid is known to have the smallest molecular structure which promotes for quicker absorption.

Dimethicone

 

Dimethicone is a skin softening moisturizing emollient that also helps to decrease or prevent itching or flaking associated with dry skin. It also gives slip to lotions and creams and works as an anti-foaming agent and skin protectant that helps to prevent water loss for enhanced skin hydration. Studies show that it helps to prevent irritant induced contact dermatitis and reduce redness associated with conditions such as Rosacea.

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs, PUFA, LA, Omega 3, Omega 6)

 

Critical for good health, the body requires EFA’s but doesn't’t make them. EFA’s can be found in dietary sources, and help form our cellular membranes and support healthy immunity. Deficiencies in the body may result in scaling, dryness and increased water loss evaporating from the skin. Applied topically, EFA’s can be absorbed by the skin. Possessing anti-inflammatory attributes, some also help to lighten pigmentations. Overall, they smoothen roughness, improve skin moisture, elasticity, firmness, and enhance resiliency.

Fucus Vesiculosus (Sea Bladderwrack Extract)

 

Fucus Vesiculosus is a naturally fragrant hydroglycolic sea plant extract of bladderwrack alga found in BC, Canada. It helps to reduce fat deposits and increase skin elasticity and firmness. Containing a high source of calcium, magnesium and natural salts, its re-mineralizing and water-binding capabilities help to provide the skin with topical nutrients and moisture.

Enzyme Blend (Glucose, Lactoperoxidase, Glucose Oxidase)

Glycerin

 

Collagen is a natural component of the skin. Glycerin in an amino acid found in collagen and is critical for its formation. As a skin humectant and lubricant, it attracts moisturize while conditioning the skin.

Glyceryl Stearate

 

Glyceryl Stearate Is naturally derived fatty acid from plant oils and acts as skin lubricant, emulsifier, fragrant ingredient, stabilizing agent and conditioning emollient. It is also found naturally occurring component of the human body.

Glycolic Acid (Dupont Glycopure USP “Clinical/Pharma” Grade)

 

Glycolic Acid has the smallest molecular structure in the Alpha Hydroxy family, giving it excellent capacity to penetrate and communicate with the lower layers of the epidermis. Having over a twenty year history in skincare and professional formulations, it is one of the most studied skin application ingredients. It loosens the lipid bonds that hold dead cells together and as a skin resurfacing agent, it enhances clarity, skin refinement, tone and resiliency largely by increasing natural collagen and glycan production in the skin.

Glycosaminoglycans

 

Glycosaminaoglycans are natural lipid glycans occurring in the human body. Similar to naturally occurring collagen and moistening factors urea, sodium PCA and hyaluronic acid, glycans found in the skin tend to deplete with age. BioStrat incorporates a combined solution of water, honey blossom and lipids to promote stronger moisturization and hydration abilities.

Hyaluronic Acid

 

Hyaluronic Acid is a natural humectant moisturizing factor (NMF) component of the skin. Aging and environmental factors can result in NMF depletion. Applied topically, it helps to supplement such depletions, holding and attracting water moisture required for cellular metabolism.

Hydroxyethylcellulose

 

Cellulose is found in the cell walls of many sea and land growing plants. Hydroxyethyl Cellulose is a cellulose based agent that allows products to spread easily across the skin.

Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender)

 

There are numerous varieties and grades of lavender, so natural properties vary. Overall, it holds antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties, and is found commonly in acne and anti-aging products. Holding natural soothing compounds thought to promote healthy tissue growth, it provides a relaxing scent and helps to deter product spoilage.

LYCD Tissue Extract (Biodynes)

 

Live yeast cell derivative (LYCD) contains a fermented blend of water and Saccharomyces Lysate Extract which is produced with ultra-violet light during their growing cycle. Renewing, smoothing and moisturizing, it is also used in topical formulations for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Magnesium Aluminum Silicate

 

Magnesium Aluminum Silicate is a naturally occurring clay-based mineral agent that thickens and stabilizes water and oil emulsions. As an emollient, it helps to smooth the skin.

Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree Leaf Oil)

 

Tea Tree Oil offers topical antiseptic qualities and natural anti-bacterial properties. Its menthol-like odor is clean and refreshing. One study found that it works as well as a 5% benzoyl peroxide agent in controlling acne symptoms.

Octyl Methoxycinnamate

 

UV-B category 1 sunscreen used for OTC sun protection as a broad spectrum UV-B filter to help retard aging of the skin.

Panax Ginseng

 

Panax Ginseng root extract contains natural plant sterols, vitamins, minerals, saponins, amino acids and complex polysaccharides thought to support immune functions. In anti-aging and re-activating products, it is used for stimulation of the skin’s metabolism and blood flow, brightening the skin.

Panthenol (Vitamin B5)

 

Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) is essential for humans and animals for growth, reproduction, and normal physiological functions. Supporting efficient metabolism, it is referred to as the “anti-stress” vitamin due to its ability to enhance immunity and improve the body’s ability to withstand stressful conditions. It facilitates cell reproduction in the deeper epidermal layers and improves skin hydration to eliminate rough, dry patches.

Rosa Canina Fruit Oil (Rose Hip Oil)

 

Rosa Canina Fruit contains Vitamins A, B, C, E and D; flavonoids; tannins; sugars; acids; pectin; carotenoids (lycopene) and healthy unsaturated fatty acids. Rose hip oil is used for balancing out the skin’s color; lightening responsive pigmentations associated with UV damage, scars and stretch marks; collagen and elasticity enhancement for improved suppleness, firmness and the diminishment of wrinkles; refining texture and improving the skin’s overall appearance.

Salicylic Acid

 

Salicylic acid is a naturally occurring phytochemical in various herbs, spices, fruits and plants such as Aloe and Willowbark. Medicinally it is commonly used for pain, inflammation and fever reduction. As a beta hydroxy acid keratolytic of the hydroxy acid family in skin care, it is regarded for its clarifying, antiseptic, soothing and resurfacing attributes. In the management of acne, it promotes the shedding of dead cells, the release of trapped pore debris and the reduction of redness and swelling. As an anti-aging agent, its skin resurfacing attributes promote a youthful look.

Sodium PCA (NMF - Natural Moisturizing Factor Amino Acid)

 

Sodium Pyroglutamic Acid (PCA) is a naturally occurring amino acid called Proline and one of several natural moisturizing factors (NMF's) found in the skin. From a protection stance, PCA forms part of the inter-cellular matrix that holds skin cells together and protects against water loss through evaporation. Derived from plant sources, PCA attracts water-moisture to the skin, promotes healthy skin cell metabolism, and helps to protect the acid mantle layer.

Symphytum Officinale (Borage Extract)

 

Symphytum officinale is a botanical that absorbs natural nutrients form the ground as it grows and flowers. It has a mild natural scent and is best regarded for its calming properties.

Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

 

Vitamin E is a free radical scavenger that helps boosts immune function and red blood cell formation. Like other anti-oxidants, the oil, when applied topically, helps to prevent wrinkles by shunning free radical damage and boosting cell regeneration, along with collagen and elastin production. In addition to its anti-aging attributes, it promotes healing in acne prone skin.

Ubiquinone (Coenzyme Q10)

 

Ubiquinone (Coenzyme Q10) is a fat soluble nutrient in all human cells. In skin care, it is used for helping to enhance collagen production and reduce UV damage.

Vitamin A

 

Vitamin A and its derivatives are available in natural and synthetic forms. As an anti-oxidant it promotes cell turnover, collagen and elastin production, and reduces the look of aging signs. Rose hip seeds produce a natural source that is shown to be easily tolerated by sensitive skin.

Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid, Panthenol)

 

Vitamin B5 holds moisturizing, soothing, healing and skin barrier protection attributes. As an anti-inflammatory, it is used to reduce itchiness, pain and redness often associated with acne, diaper rash, contact dermatitis, eczema, insect bites, and sunburn. As a humectant for dry or photo-damaged skin, it attracts and retains water moisturize to improve elasticity and soothe dry or flaky areas.

Vitamin C (Citric acid, Ascorbic acid)

 

Vitamin C is an anti-oxidant found in certain vegetables, tea leaves, fruits and hip berries (i.e.. Rose Hip). When applied topically and properly, it can penetrate the deeper layers of the epidermis to scavenge free radicals, improve collagen synthesis and inhibit the formation of freckles and lighten the skin to diminish aging signs. It holds skin resurfacing attributes and helps to decrease aging signs such as wrinkling, tactile roughness, coarse rhytids, skin laxity/tone, sallowness and yellowing discoloration attributed to photo-damage.
